There is no reason for someone to ascend.
Yes in eliere times there were beings that crossed and still cross around many dimensions. Earth in a sense was a place where many went here and back from time to time.

Now ascending happens but there is no reason for it to happen. There are more that want to explore this reality other than just to leave it. You can say that souls are waiting in line to explore this reality.
